The Bottom Line
Based on the blockbuster Despicable Me franchise, Minion Mayhem is a delightful 3D motion simulator ride where you, the guest, are recruited by super villain genius Gru to become new minions. During the family friendly experience, you’ll go through Minion Training led by Gru’s adorable daughters: Margo, Edith and Agnes.
Appropriate for all ages. Some loud noises. Moderately intense motion from the simulator pods may induce motion sickness (stationary seating is available). Harmless cartoon violence and via the adorable minions as well as moments of danger.
Crowd Patterns & Wait Times
Minion Mayhem is located in an awkward corner of the park, immediately to the left once you hit Universal Plaza. Most guests head straight for Shrek 4D, The Simpsons Ride, or the Studio Tour before making their way around to Despicable Me, meaning low wait times all morning which build steadily by mid-afternoon. Luckily, the ride boasts two theaters and can generally handle large crowds. Expect to wait between 10 and 30 minutes on slow to moderate days and 35 to 60 minutes on busier days.
The queue is comprised largely of outdoor, shaded switchbacks. Overhead monitors offer “Minion Quizzes” as well as clips from the film.
Length of Experience
Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem includes two separate preshows, as well as the ride itself, each lasting approximately five minutes in length.
What to Know Before You Go
Minion Mayhem is set approximately one year after the events of Despicable Me, so characters featured in Despicable Me 2 and the Minions spinoff won’t be present. We recommend viewing the original Despicable Me film to get the most out of this attraction.
