SHREK 4D HAS NOW PERMANENTLY CLOSED AS OF AUGUST 14th, 2017
The Upper Lot, Universal Plaza, adjacent to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Gate A and VIP access lanes offered.
If you’d prefer to not sit in a motion seat, clearly marked stationary seating is available in the back two rows.
The Bottom Line
Join Shrek, Donkey and Princess Fiona on a new fairy tale adventure, featuring 3D effects, motion simulated seats, and other sensory surprises. Taking place after the events of the original Shrek, Lord Farquaad returns from the grave to kidnap Fiona and menace visitors to Dulocland – us!
Appropriate for all ages. Loud noises and a spooky scene in a graveyard (no jump scares). Cartoon violence and crude comedy consistent with the Shrek film franchise. The preshow is set a dim dungeon with various torture devices, but no violence is shown or emphasized, and the experience is played for laughs. Simulated motion is very mild.
Crowd Patterns & Wait Times
Shrek 4D is located smack dab in the middle of the park and is generally the first attraction visitors see upon entering. That said, its fairly large theater effectively swallows guests, many of which leave Shrek for later in the day. The attraction tends to get bombarded after a showing of WaterWorld lets out. Note that the line will not move continuously – you’ll likely stay in the same place for approximately ten minutes, then move forward in a giant lurch. Expect to wait for the next show (less than 15 minutes) during slow to moderate days, and two to three shows (30-45 minutes) on busy days.
The main portion of the queue is outdoors in a misted, swamp like garden. While there is no proper entertainment while waiting for the preshow, once inside you’ll encounter the imprisoned Three Pigs, Pinocchio, the Magic Mirror and Ghost Lord Farquaad himself. Sometimes, Donkey will appear to the left side of the preshow in puppet form.
Length of Experience
The ride film is approximately twelve minutes. Factoring in loading the theater and the preshow, you’re looking at about twenty-five minutes once inside the building.
What to Know Before You Go
Shrek 4D is set between the events of the original Shrek and Shrek 2, just after Shrek and Fiona’s wedding, so you won’t find Puss in Boots or any other characters from later in the film franchise or its spin-offs. Do note that the preshow used to include a full recap of the events of the first film; this was recently edited out, so if you’re unfamiliar, check out the first Shrek.
